For the past couple of weeks, I was debating if I should change my HP Mini netbook (running window 7 starter) into a mac. After countless hours debating and researching, I finally decided to do it. It wasn’t easy, and I had numerous errors (mostly stupid mistakes), but I finally got it. Here’s the guide that I copied from (I did usb from a pc, since I don’t have a Mac):
OS X Install Guide
Introduction This guide will walk you through installing OS X using iDeneb 1.3. There are other guides that show you how to install using the official Apple Mac OS X Leopard disks, but this guide is not related. Mysql query browser for mac free download. With that said, let’s turn your 110 into an ultra-portable hackintosh!
Things You’ll Need:
Mac Os X 10.8 Download Free
An HP/Compaq Mini 110-series netbook with at least 16GB or more disk space available. Note: make sure BIOS version is version 0.5 or higher.
An 8GB or larger flash drive or an external USB DVD drive. A USB mouse (needed until the trackpad kexts are installed.) A copy of iDeneb version 1.3 (not v1.4, 1.5, etc.) The HP Mini OS X Essential Files, found here: Download An additional USB flash drive (optional, but helpful) The most important thing that you’ll be needing is a copy of iDeneb OS X version 1.3 disk image. For legal reasons I will not supply a direct link to a download location. All I can say is that Google and torrents are your best friend. Just make sure to acquire version 1.3. Steer clear of other versions. With that said, let’s get on with it!
Creating a Bootable iDeneb Installation
If it were only this easy…
There are several ways to go about creating an iDeneb installation, choose the one that is most compatible and easiest for you.
Installing iDeneb onto USB Flash Drive using a Mac RECOMMENDED METHOD
Open up Disk Utility.app in /Applications/Utilities/
Select the drive you will be using in the left-hand pane Click the “Erase” tab Under “Volume Format”, then select Mac OS Extended Click “Erase” Click the “Restore” tab Locate your iDeneb image file (.iso) and double-click it, it will open in Disk Utility In Disk Utility you should now see iDeneb in the left pane with another image under it with the Apple logo next to it Drag the image to the “Source” location Drag your USB flash drive you have erased to the “Destination” location Click “Restore” Open up UInstaller and select your newly formatted drive Check the “Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12″ checkbox Click “Install” Be sure copy the HP Mini Essentials .zip file onto the flash drive, you’ll need it later on in the installation! You have now created a bootable iDeneb image. Insert your flash drive into your Mini, reboot, and press F9 at the HP Logo. Choose to boot from your USB Flash drive. Continue to the Installation part of this guide. Installing iDeneb onto a DVD using a Mac (You’ll need a USB DVD drive if you go this route.)
Find your iDeneb image file (.iso) and double-click on it
Open up Disk Utility.app in /Applications/Utilities/ Click on your iDeneb image on the left pane Click the “Burn” button on the top of the window Plug your USB drive/DVD drive into your Mini and reboot it When the HP logo appears upon restart, quickly press F9 Once to the boot menu, select your USB DVD drive from the list of boot devices You’ll need that spare flash drive now, or burn another CD with the HP Mini Essentials .zip file on it. You’ll need it later on in the installation. Continue onto the next part of the guide, “Installation”. Installing iDeneb onto a DVD using Windows (You’ll need a USB DVD drive if you go this route.)
If you don’t have ISO burning software already, download an ISO burning program. A simple Google search yields a freeware ISO burner: http://www.freeisoburner.com/
Select the iDeneb.iso as the source, or open up the ISO via your current compatable burning software. Insert a blank DVD into the drive and burn on the slowest burning settings possible. Why? Some users have reported issues when installing using burned copies due to corrupt, missing files, etc. Burning on slow settings reduces these chances. You’ll need that spare flash drive now, or burn another CD with the HP Mini Essentials .zip file on it. You’ll need it later on in the installation. Hook up your USB DVD drive to your Mini and put in your iDeneb CD. Reboot your Mini Press F9 at the HP logo screen. Choose to boot from your USB DVD drive. Continue on to the next part of the guide, “Installation” Installing iDeneb onto a USB flash stick using Windows
Note: this can be done but it isn’t any faster and much more frustrating. If you don’t have a USB DVD drive for your mini, I recommend purchasing one, or borrowing one and installing OS X. I say this because it is way less frustrating to install iDeneb onto a flash drive using Windows. With that said, here’s instructions how anyways. Also, some flash drives have better luck than others, AKA, a high quality, name brand flash drive will have a better chance of working than a $2 thumb drive in the bargain bin at the convenience store.
Format your USB flash drive to FAT32 file system. Not sure how? Details here: http://www.ehow.com/how_2006214_format-flash-drive.html
Make your USB drive bootable. There are a few different utilities to do this with. I suggest using the HP USB Boot Utility. Download here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=MTX-UNITY-I23839 Download a program called DDMac to burn the iDeneb ISO to the flash drive. Download DDMac here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lm3alzzyhm1 Download the .zip file and open DDMac along with the EnglishGUI.png file to know what you’re doing. a) Select your ISO file. b) De-select the box that says “tboot.ini boot.ini” with a bunch of other question marks. c) De-select the box that is beside the drop down area where you select your drive. d) Select your USB flash drive from the drop down list. e) Reselect the box beside the drop down menu again. f) Press the button right beside this box and it will start. Follow the instructions in the English_GUI on the DDMac. It is pretty straightforward. Click the start button, and let it do its thing. DO NOT CLICK ON THE PROGRAM WHILE ITS RUNNING! If you get a message that states your drive is write protected part way through the burn, your USB flash drive is faulty and is not capable of getting the iDeneb ISO burned to it. You’ll need a different flash drive if you want to continue with this method. Be sure to also add in the HP Mini Essentials .zip file to your flash drive also. You’ll need it later on in the installation. If your USB flash drive has survived (lol) the burning proccess with DDMac, insert the USB flash drive into your HP Mini 110 if it wasn’t already and reboot it. As soon as the HP Logo appears, quickly press F9 to reach the boot menu. Select your USB Drive to boot from, and if the burn was successful, it should boot into the OS X installation. If not, then you’ll either need to retry burning or move on to a different method of getting iDeneb onto your USB flash drive or move to DVD installation. The Installation Note: You will not be able to keep your current install of XP, so be sure you have backed up anything you want saved.
1. After successfully getting your iDeneb install to boot, the installer will now begin. The grey screen with the Apple logo will appear breifly until you are presented with the language selection screen. Select your language and click “Next”. If you have troubles seeing the button, hit Tab on your keyboard, then Space.
2. Go to the top of the screen where it says “Utilities”. From this menu, select “Disk Utility”
3. Click on your Mini’s hard drive in the left pane.
4. Click on the “Erase” tab.
5. Under Volume Format, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
6. Click “Erase”.
If you want to create a dual boot setup, you’ll need to start here in Disk Utility. Follow the guide here: http://osxhpmini.info/multi-booting-guide/
7. https://renewbay472.weebly.com/words-with-friends-2-computer-mac-download.html. After Disk Utility has finished erasing your drive, exit the Disk Utility.

10. In the Customize screen, apply the following patches:
a) Expand “Fix” and select: ACPI, CPU, and Firewire Removal
b) Under “Patch”, expand “Chipset” and select ICHx Fix
11. You can now continue with the installation. Feel free to add any application that are included with the installer. They are not necessary, they’re there if you want them. While you are waiting for the installer, you can go ahead and Digg this guide if you want to.
12. The install should then proceed. After sitting at the install screen for a while, your computer will automatically reboot. If you let it go, it will tell you migration assistant cannot run due to the screen size and then it will continue to load OS X. You do not want this to happen, So hit Enter as soon as the boot loader appears and starts counting down.
13. Once you’ve hit Enter, you’ll be able to enter a command. Enter “-s” without quotes and hit Enter once again.
Install java 11 mac. 14. Wait for all the text to skim by until it stops. Then, type “/sbin/fsck –fy” without quotes and press Enter.
15. Once it says “File System was modified.” Type “/sbin/mount –uw /” without quotes, but with the spaces.

19. Now, type “reboot” without quotes and press Enter.
20. Your Mini will now reboot and OS X will load.
Ok, we now have OS X installed on our Mini 110! Mind you, it is still a rough, caveman-like installation. Now we need to install all of the other essentials that will make our Mini Hackintosh run as smooth as, well, a Mac!
Installing Kernel Extensions
Now that OS X has booted, you will now be prompted for a username and a password. User name is “root” without quotes, and the password is whatever you set it to during part 16 above. Now, you should be in OS X. (w00t!)
Click “System Preferences” in your dock. It’s the gray icon and looks like gears in a box.
Click “Accounts”. To the far left, there is a “+” sign. Click on it. In the username box, type in whatever you’d like, but DO NOT set a password. Under “New Account” it should say Standard, but click the drop-down and choose Administrator. Click “Create Account”. It will prompt you asking if it’s OK to not have a password. Click “OK”. Under the list of accounts to the left, click “Login Options”. Under “Automatic Login”, select the new account you just made. Reboot your Mini. You should now be in OS X again, but this time you’ll be under the account you just created instead of the “root” account.
Find your HP Mini Essentials .zip file that we have already downloaded and have on our flash drives/CDs (right?) and go ahead and unzip it to your OS X desktop. Inside the HP Mini Essential Files folder, open up the UInstaller folder, and open the UInstaller app.
Select your hard drive under Drives. Choose Osx86_Essentials as the package to install Click “Apply kext package” Click “Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12” Click “Install” Now, let’s go ahead and apply the DST Patcher to get ready to update to 10.5.7. Open up the HP Mini Essential Files folder again, go into DSTPatcherGUI folder, and open up DST Patcher GUI app.
Select “Darwin/Mac OS X”
Select “New HPET Option” Select “Apply DSDT Patch to:” Select your hard drive. Now, let’s get our WiFi and other fun stuff working. Back in our HP Mini Essential Files folder, go into the OSX86Tools_1.0.150 folder, and open the OSX86Tools app.
In OSX86Tools, click on “Repair Permissions”, then click the button to perform the select action.
Click on “Install kexts” towards the bottom right. Find the kexts folder on your flash drive. Select the THIRD (excluding AppleGMA950.kext and AppleINtegratedFramebuffer.kext) kext file. Shift+Click the last one to select all (excluding the two previously mentioned.) After the installer completes, it will ask you to reboot. Just click “OK” and “Cancel” on any dialog boxes that appear. Now most of our kexts are installed for your Mini. If you were wondering what kexts are, they are similar to device drivers on Windows, just Mac-style.
Update to Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.5.7
Updated September 21, 2009: There are many people that successfully installed Mac OS X 10.5.8 software update with no issues including myself so I am now recommending that you choose to install 10.5.8 instead of 10.5.7, but I will leave the 10.5.7 route still listed below.
Updating to 10.5.8 via Software Update RECOMMENDED METHOD
Connect to your WiFi network. If you don’t know how to, it’s the symbol farthest left at the top right of the screen that looks like a wireless signal.
Go to “System Preferences” from your dock once again. Select “Software Update”. Click “Check Now”. Check the checkbox next to “Mac OS X Update” which is currently 10.5.8. Double check in the update description. There will be other updates available, and to check which ones are safe, refer to this post: http://osxhpmini.info/2009/09/19/compatible-software-updates/ Click “Install” Go through all the prompts. It will start to download, then reboot. The download may take a while depending on your internet connection. Once rebooted, move on to the next part of the guide. Updating to 10.5.7 via Downloaded 10.5.7 Combo Update (no longer recommended.)
Download the 10.5.7 Combo Update from Apple’s website here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_7_Combo_Update
Double-click it to mount the disk image. Run the Updater by double-clicking it. Go through all the prompts. It will start the installation process. It will reboot twice. If all went well, you will be in OS X after rebooting itself a few times. Be patient. If not, you’ll be sitting at the Apple boot logo for a while wishing you had followed the guide more closely. If it fails, you will have to do a complete reinstall. Start from Step 1, under “Installation”.
If you are in OS X, congratulations! Time to get out the USB Mouse that was listed under “Things You’ll Need”. Now we need to get your trackpad and keyboard properly installed.
Mouse and Keyboard Fix
Plug in the USB mouse you have and be thankful you listened to the guide and did not set a password for your user account. If you did, you better be plugging in a USB keyboard as well.
First, run the VooDooPS2 Controller package (VoodooPS2Controller-0.98-installer.pkg) found in the HP Mini Essential Files folder. When prompted, make sure to check that box that says trackpad. Go through all the prompts until it’s installed. Reboot. Now that we have a fully working trackpad and keyboard, we need to reinstall all the kexts. Open up OSX86Tools again (HP Mini Essential Files > OSX86Tools_1.0.150 > OSX86Tools.app ) and reinstall all the kexts in the kext folder.
Click on “Install kexts” towards the bottom right.
Find the kexts folder on your flash drive. Select the first one. This time, select all but one kext – Do not install the AppleIntelGMA950 kext. It will disable your screen. Shift+Click the last one to select all. After the installer completes, it will ask you to reboot. Go ahead and reboot. Now that we have rebooted, again, and we are back into OS X, again, we need to enable Quartz. What is Quartz, you ask? Quartz is an essential part of the graphics system in Mac OS X. Quartz is partially based on the Portable Document Format (PDF) standard, and allows anti-aliasing, rendering, and compositing of PostScript graphics. Quartz also draws the Aqua user interface.
Enabling Quartz
To enable Quartz, open OX86 Tools and click the Enable/Disable Quartz GL button. It will tell you the current status. If disabled, feel free to enable it by clicking the button that says “Enable Quartz GL”.
Fixing the CPU to Allow Dual-Core Processing
If you start Activity Monitor before doing this, you will see that OS X only sees one processor (press the CPU tab below the process list.) To allow it to use the second core, do the following:
Log in as the Administrator. (Log out of your current user, then select “Other” at the login screen and type in username “root” without quotes, and the password you entered for it earlier in the installation.)
Go to Finder and select the drive you installed OS X on and direct yourself to library/preferences/systemconfigration Select the file “com.apple.boot.plist” without quotes. Right click and Copy the file. Paste it somewhere else, like the Desktop, as a back up copy. Open the original “com.apple.boot.plist” file with the text editor (the default program) and select where it says something like “cpu=1 –f” and change the number 1 to the number 2, so that it reads “cpu=2 –f” Save the file, then reboot the Mini. Again. Now, we can enable Quartz Exteme!
Enable Quartz Extreme (10.5.7 and above)
Download these kexts: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yohk3zyzwyg and extract the contents of the .zip file to your desktop.
Go into OSX86 Tools (HP Mini Essential Files > OSX86Tools_1.0.150 > OSX86Tools.app ), and select “Install Kexts”. Browse to your download location, and install all of those kexts. Once it is done installing, it will ask you to reboot. To avoid problems, chose “Cancel” and stay in OSX86 Tools. Go ahead and repair permissions. Be prepared for this to take a while, so don’t get worried if it does. It is normal. Reboot when the permissions have been repaired.
You’re All Done! Enjoy!
REMEMBER! If Software Update pops up and asks you to install some updates, you can always refer to this site, or more specifically, this page: http://osxhpmini.info/2009/09/19/compatible-software-updates/ to find out which ones are compatible with our netbooks.
